From the recording Front Porch Ghost
A cold winter day on Billingsley Creek, mist rising from the water, an icy wind eerily singing through the trees overhead, and on the old cabin porch...a lonely, empty rocking chair moves slowly, steadily, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth...
Front Porch Ghost is an early release from the upcoming "Idaho Originals" album made possible in part by a grant from the Idaho Commission on the Arts. The album of songs, inspired by the people, places, and stories about Idaho, will feature a corresponding book featuring contributions from Idaho visual artists.
Lyrics
There's a Front Porch Ghost in a rocking chair
Rocking back and forth in a silent prayer
Long ago when she could love and speak
She watched her boy go fishing on Billingsley Creek
Oooo-Oooo
He waved goodbye in the misty dawn
Said, "I love you Mama, I won't be long"
The sun rose high and the day wore on
She just kept rocking. He never came home
Her soul won't rest, He's still out there
Front Porch Ghost in the rocking chair
Oooo-Oooo
So everyday she rocks
And everyday he leaves
But she still has hope as long as she believes
Believes...
There's a stillborn child in a creekside grave
It's the same little boy she imagines each day
Who waves goodbye in the misty dawn
Says, "I love you Mama, I won't be long."
Her soul won't rest, he's still out there
Front Porch Ghost in the rocking chair
And when the cold wind blows
You can see her there
Front Porch Ghost in the rocking chair
Oooo-Oooo
